                      Hatching Brine Shrimp

Lets start out by talking about the numbers associated with BBS , numbers on the containers pertain to the hatch rate . We use 90% or better when we can get them if the 90% are not available we can always get 80% or higher. We do not recommend using less than 80% hatch rate.

Simplest and  most effective means of hatching is by using an empty 2 liter plastic soda bottle with the base cut off and the bottle inverted , placing the bottle in a 3" PVC coupling will provide and adequate base. Attach a piece of vinyl air tubing to the bottle cap by drilling a small hole in the cap and applying silicone to the inside around the tubing. (let the silicone cure over night)

Our water parameters are ideal for hatching BBS with a pH of 7.2-7.8 . Make sure you know what your pH is !! If pH is lower than 7.2 add baking soda to increase the pH value until you reach a minimum of 7.2 (make sure you de chlorinate your water !!)

Now onto salt and egg mix ratio:

Use 3 tbs aquarium salt or halite rock salt can also be used dump into your 2 liter container filled with de chlorinated water ,then add up to one tea spoon of unhatched BBS eggs attach your air tubing to a an air pump and let cook at room temp. for 24 hours .

After bbs have hatched use a metal coffee strainer to catch you fresh shrimp ,
you can obtain one of these filters at any of your larger dept. stores.

Storing your BBS in a container kept in the refrigerator for up to 36 hours is a good way of keeping the BBS fresh. After 36 hours discard as the bbs no longer have a sufficient nutritional value.

Hatching BBS does take practice so do not get discouraged .

GOOD LUCK
